Saint Bernard

The Saint Bernard dog breed was originally developed to rescue people in the Great St. Bernard Pass located in the Swiss Alps. They are affectionate with just about everyone they meet, whether we are talking about strangers, children or dogs, or other animals.

That being said, even though the Saint Bernard is a large dog breed, they are extremely quiet, loving and friendly creatures, but they are not best suited for apartments, because they need enough space to move. Being developed to withstand the cold temperatures of the Alps, the Saint Bernard does not do well in the heat. So, bring them inside if they show signs of overheating.

According to animal experts, this dog breed is not known for barking without a real cause. Unfortunately, experts say that they are a short lived breed, usually only 8 to 10 years.
