Macadamia nuts

Many nuts are not good for dogs; however, macadamia nuts rank among the most toxic. The reason for this is not fully understood by vets, but it’s known that it leads to vomiting, weakness, hyperthermia, and loss of bodily functions.

Weakness, particularly behind the hind legs, is one of the most common symptoms. “If you suspect your dog may have eaten even a small amount of macadamia nuts, consult your veterinarian immediately,” the AKC advises.

We have to let the cat out of the bag with the next one…..

  1. where can i find the list of vitamins and other supplements or additives needed to make my dog food at home ?

    1. Just google recipes for homemade dog food. And also put a powder vitamin supplement in it. Also you can google that. I make my dogs food with chicken breast, carrots, brown rice and green beans. And I use the same ingredients and do a beef using ground chuck beef. Much healthier then can foods. After you make a big batch freeze it in little baggies. Good luck

  2. My dogs have never had a problem with milk chocolate or white chocolate. I never give them a more than a nibble of milk chocolate, though. But this was very informative, thank you!

    1. Chocolate is definitely dangerous for your dog. You can not see the damage but chocolate has the chemical theobromine which affects the heart and nervous system and can shorten your dog’s life. We eat saturated fat in some of our foods and that will have a prolonged effect on our lives, even though we may not feel the build-up until later. However, theobromine is a poison for dogs and can kill them. Heed the warnings if you love your dog. The healthiest food for your dog is found in a can. Read the labels and stay away from ingredients that contain by-products.

  3. Thank you, I learned a lot more about what’s not going to my dogs.
Some times you need a reminder, of how toxic people’s food can be for our pets.
Added a lot to my learning

  4. Angie chocolate is bad for dogs. What makes you think you are smarter than people who have already discovered this. You can’t see the problem immediately but it affects the heart and the nervous system. It contains a poison called theobromine. Don’t think like Trump, you don’t know it all. Look it up.

  5. Peach, plum, cherry and apricot pits are also toxic to your dogs. They have what is called Cyanogenic Glycosides (amygdalin) which is a form of cyanide. This toxin slows down the enzymes in your dog’s body that are essential to transport oxygen in the blood. I have 2 Great Pyrenees puppies, they are the most amazing dogs ever. I want to keep them safe and healthy. I have peach trees in their area that I’m going to have to cut down. I can plant more trees to another area on the farm, but I cannot replace my pups.

  6. I only feed my dog dog food and dog biscuits as treats. I do not feed him from the table because this encourages begging. He’s a mature dog and at a healthy weight. He’s a great dog and very loyal, so I want him to lead a long, healthy life
