Understand your petā€™s treatment options

When your dog is diagnosed with cancer, you have to be prepared for anything and understand your petā€™s treatment options. You should ask your vet whatā€™s the right treatment for your dog and donā€™t be afraid to ask more questions if needed.

ā€œOptions may include surgical treatment, combination therapy of surgery and chemotherapy, radiation therapy, chemotherapy alone, and immunotherapy,ā€ says Dr. Brown. ā€œImmunotherapy includes cancer vaccines – thereā€™s a cancer vaccine for melanoma available for dogs now. There is also work on a number of other immunotherapy modalities where youā€™re basically taking the dogā€™s own immune cells to kill its own cancer cells.ā€
