Swans are the largest species of the ducks – goose family. Black swans are native to Australia, but white swans are dominant. Black-necked swans live in South-American regions. It is said that swans are faithful creatures and they mate for life. Swans never cheat on each other. They mate with another female or male when their partner dies.

The female is known as a pen and a male swan is called a cob. They breed when they are 3-4 years old. Their eggs take 35 to 42 days to hatch and the number of eggs ranges from 3 to 8. Baby swans are called cygnets.

They could fly really fast – up to 60MPH miles per hour. Even if it is said that birds do not have a good memory, swans are highly intelligent. They are smarter than dolphins. They remember even the way humans treat them, not just their faces. So, if you treat a swan badly it will remember this and it will act consequently.

Cynophobia means that people have a fear of swans. Swans have over 25k feathers in their bodies. An adult male swan is the only bird that owns a penis!
