Illegally trading these animals can result in up to two years of imprisonment, per the Philippines Bureau of Customs. Authorities have identified the alleged criminal, reports Phys.org. Many of the turtles and tortoises were wrapped in duct tape to prevent them from moving. Poor babies!

I truly don’t understand the hype of a pet turtle (I’m more of a cat person), but it’s real: More than 55,000 Indian star tortoises were illegally collected from a single place in 2014, reports the International Union for Conservation of Nature, which classifies the animal as “vulnerable.”
