Do Cats Really Feel When You’re Sick?

If you’ve ever been a pet owner, you already know how amazing our pets really are: protective, caring and loyal. Travelling back to ancient times, we can see that Egyptians admired cats.. well, just as much as the internet does these days. Aside from being adorable, grumpy, lazy and sometimes acting like divas, these creatures are thought to have some sort of magical powers too: detecting human illness. But is that really true?

Indeed, there have been reported many situations where cats have gone wild right before their owners suffered from a crisis or suddenly felt sick. One example, for instance, comes from a Morinville family. Back in 2007, 9-year-old Alex suffered from a diabetic seizure in the middle of the night. The cat instantly climbed on his bed and started to poaw at his face until the boy could get up and call his parents.

The truth is that up until this moment, no one performed a professional, long-term study to prove this fascinating theory. Therefore, the behavior of a cat around a sick person might depend on its race, age or even the way it was raised!

Either way, one thing we know for sure: the likelihood of a cat sensing people’s physical (or mental) suffering is very high. That’s just yet another reason for us to cherish our furry friends every day!
