Last weekend, Wayside Waifs in Kansas City, Missouri, held a 19-hour adoption event. So many people came out to support the shelter, and by the end of the event, 203 animals — including dogs, cats and even a guinea pig — had found their forever homes. Every single dog in the shelter had been adopted — except for one.
At the end of the event, all of the dogs were happily snuggled up in their forever homes, while Kenny was left behind, still waiting. Kenny was transferred to Wayside Waifs from the Louisiana SPCA because of overcrowding, and his new shelter friends don’t know much about his past — which is sort of fitting, because sweet, goofy Kenny is all about the present. He absolutely loves running around and playing as much as he can, and has never met a person he hasn’t instantly fallen in love with.
Between Kenny’s adorable face and incredible personality, it’s a mystery to everyone as to why he’s the one who somehow got overlooked.
“Kenny is a fun, friendly and happy dog,” Casey Waugh, communications and annual giving manager at Wayside Waifs, told The Dodo. “He’s definitely a people dog! Yesterday a volunteer took him on a field trip. The volunteer described him as ‘a dream.’ They went to get ice cream, they visited a nearby park/lake where Kenny waded in the water, then they stopped by a local pet store where he became friends with everyone who worked there.”
For Kenny, every moment of life is a fantastic adventure, and he would love nothing more than to find a forever family to share that with.
Kenny does need to be the only pet in his new home, and would do best in a family without small children, due to his strong and energetic nature. He would love a family who is down to be as energetic and athletic as he is, taking him on long walks and running around with him whenever possible.
Above all, though, Kenny wants a family who will love him as much as he loves every single person he comes across. For Kenny, it’s really all about the love.
While everyone at Wayside Waifs is bummed for Kenny that he was the only dog not adopted over the weekend, Kenny hasn’t seemed to notice too much, because his shelter friends have been busy showering him with tons of love and affection while he continues to wait for his family.
“Honestly, while we all want Kenny to find his forever home ASAP, we’re positive he’s enjoying the pampering he’s received,” Waugh said.
“In addition to the field trip he went on yesterday, he was showered with love on Sunday. He was given a dog-friendly brunch, a new collar and a big, yummy bone.”

Has Kenny been adopted yet?
Calvin
can you tell me if Kenny has been adopted yet? My heart is breaking for him. My house is full of dogs and one is super aggressive so I can’t take him myself but I can’t stop thinking about Kenny. Would you please run an update on him? Thanks. Diane
True love comes with four paws and a tail.
You are 100% Correct!
I hope by this time Kenny is happily ensconced in his new forever home.
