Selkirk Rex

The Selkirk Rex is often considered a large cat breed that manages to impress everyone with their luxurious and curly coat. What makes this cat breed so special, apart from their size? Well, the Selkirk Rex has a strong and loving personality, being very patient with other pets and children, which makes them a great companion for families with other animals and kids.

If you want to adopt this cat breed, you have to make sure that you give them enough attention and affection, because they are very affectionate creatures that need a lot of attention.

“This curly-coated cat is a spontaneous mutation originally found in a shelter [in] Montana,” says Keiger. “Gentle and loving, the Selkirk Rex gets along great with people and other pets,” Keiger added.

“Selkirk Rex owners are consistently stopped by people with anxious hands wanting to pet and feel this soft, plush pet,” CFA explains. “The fortunate humans are those who can take these live teddy cats home for cuddles and hug.”

  1. If I had my choice, I would want to own a Norwegian Forest Cat. One thing that this article does not mention, they are good for persons who suffer allergies to cat dander. It is really the saliva of the cat that triggers the allergies. Cats are territorial and mark their their territories with their saliva. The enzymes that trigger allergies are quite low in this cat.

I had a Maine coon here in Omaha NE his name was Cesar, the vet checked him out and said you have a very, very rare cat he had Red Telzar on his skin had he was gorgeous cat. We had him 10 yrs before he passed away. I really miss him it’s been 46 yrs since I held him.

  3. Please don’t promote these “Breed” cats. Thousands of cats are euthanized everyday….we don’t need more. Millions of cats live as stray and feral. They live lives of starvation, disease and suffering. Please promote spaying/neutering of cats andadopting from shelters/rescues. Please do not encourage breeding.
