…How many times have you watched a documentary and wished you had an exotic pet as an animal?

When we think about pets, we usually have the classic options in mind, such as dogs, cats, hamsters, and maybe rabbits. That is because we already know how to take care of them, we know that they are playful and they don’t mind living in small spaces, such as tiny apartments.

Maybe you’ve always wanted an exotic animal as a pet, such as a tiger or a fluffy red fox, but you know that you are not allowed to do that. But what if I told you that you could actually own some interesting pets if you live in certain states in the US?

You will have to click on the next page to find out more about this topic! Here are 7 exotic pets you can legally own in the U.S.

1. Tiger

If a tiny and moody cat is too boring for you, then you might consider getting a tiger instead. If you have an Exotic Wildlife Possession permit and if you live in the state of Pennsylvania, you can get yourself a giant cat.

Several studies have discovered that unfortunately, there are more tigers as pets than exist in the wild. I don’t know about you, but I would be extremely scared to own an exotic animal that might actually kill me.

2. Anteater

We all know that there are a lot of famous people out there who have weird pets just because they can. If you want to be one of those people who are not afraid of exotic animals, you can get yourself an anteater, but only if you live in the state of Oregon and you also have a permit.

Anteaters are animals that are banned as pets in many states of the country, such as Georgia or New Hampshire, so make sure to do your research beforehand.

3. Anaconda

Anaconda snakes are from the tropical forests of South America and they are the largest snakes in the world by weight and length. You are allowed to keep an anaconda as a pet in Vermont, but only if you get a permit for one.

If you want to have one of these at home, make sure you have the right food for them. According to several animal experts, when they live in the wild, anacondas can eat tapirs, which are mammiferous and can weigh up to 700 pounds.

4. Snow Leopard

If you want to impress your friends with something unique, while also making them scared for their lives, you will have to move to Missouri and get a snow leopard!

An interesting fact about the state of Missouri is that they don’t include this carnivore “pet” on their list of “dangerous wild animals”, but you must have a chat with the local law enforcement.

However, if you are one of Montana’s residents, you can get one even though you don’t have a permit.

5. Kangaroo

There are many people who want to jump around with a kangaroo or cuddle with them. If you want to have fun with one of these animals, you can raise one in Colorado or Arizona.

However, you have to keep in mind that you can’t kidnap a kangaroo and you shouldn’t make them mad either. If you do so, you have all the chances of getting beaten by your pet.

6. Red Fox

You can find three species of native foxes on the territory of our beautiful country. The most popular one is the red fox, which you can happily raise as a pet if you live in Virginia, Utah, or Wyoming.

Make sure that you don’t sell or breed them if you are a resident of Virginia because the state doesn’t allow it! Another thing that you have to keep in mind is the fact that your red fox pet might have a different coloration compared to the ones who live in the wild.

7. Elephant

If you are lucky enough to have a big backyard, you can make your family happy by getting an elephant as a pet. You’ll surely be the star of the neighborhood, but feeding and cleaning after them is no fun.

If you live in Nevada, you don’t need a permit to have an elephant at home, but you need a lot of space and patience!
