When someone spotted a box sitting outside a charity shop in the UK last week, they didn’t think anything of it at first — until they saw the note taped to it.
“RSPCA please can you find us a nice new home. Our mummy is poorly and can’t look after us anymore,” the note read. Inside the box were three guinea pigs, abandoned and confused. The person who found them contacted the RSPCA, and animal collection officer Richard Carr rushed over to the shop to collect them.
“These poor guinea pigs had been dumped on a busy high street on Friday afternoon,” Carr said in a press release. “They were found with food and water but the guinea pigs were very stressed and sitting in their own mess. One of the guinea pigs also has hair loss which could be a result of parasites.”
Carr took the three guinea pigs to the vet where they were kept overnight for observation, and luckily, they seemed to be in fairly good health besides a few minor issues. He picked them up the next morning and brought them to the RSPCA Worcester branch, where they immediately began to thrive.
“They are doing very well and becoming quite popular with the staff,” Carr said.
Staffers at the RSPCA decided to name the trio Jon, Alan and Richard, and the friendly, lovable guinea pigs have already found a forever home together.
“These guinea pigs were lucky to be found by a kind member of the public who contacted us,” Carr said. “We do understand that people’s circumstances can change which might mean they can no longer look after their pets, but there is never an excuse to abandon an animal like this.”
