7. German Shepherd

You might be surprised to read the name of this dog breed being mentioned on this list, but even a large-sized pup such as the German Shepherd craves all the attention and love their owners have to give. They’re very strong and loyal, which makes them great dogs for the military and police.

But just because they’re all about criminals and mysteries doesn’t mean that they won’t trade anything just to be lazy on the couch with their owners. German Shepherds are really smart and they can be easily trained to avoid all sorts of distractions and other things that can disturb them from their task at hand.

…Would you like to cuddle with a big pup like this one?

  1. You forgot Toy Fox Terriers. They are like your shirt. They love you and will not leave you, even in the bathroom. If you close the door, they will just scratch it until you let them in.

  2. Those big dogs like Rottweilers and Huskies do not do well in apt they need exercise they get bored very easily

I’ve had the privilege of living with 3 goldens in my lifetime and I just adore their quirks and unending love!! I’m surprised I can even use my phone to write this review, usually I have someone complaining in the background to get off !! Lol!

  4. Great info. Love your articles. I own 7-dogs. 5- full pits, 1-mix pit/boxer and 1-mix Malinois/ridge back. They all have their own personility, but they all crave love and affection. Your description of the pits and others are spot on.

  5. You have frequently posted interesting articles, which I never can see. This is therefore doubly annoying as it is a great come on with absolutely no follow through! How about you actually let us see one of these articles? If there is a way, I have not found it.

  6. I was expecting to see the Newfoundland on the list. They’re so gentle and affectionate — not to mention adorable.

  8. My pup, who’s a JR/Yorkie mix, is the epitome of a velcro dog. She always is right beside me or right in front of me, wherever I may go, and I love her that much more for it!

  9. Pits are bred for the pits, they’re responsible for killing more people including your children, how ignorant to post these with safe breeds.

  10. I have two boy wheaten terrier mixed, 6yr old. I bottle fed them from the age of 3 weeks old. These two boys are joined at the hip with me. They have separation anxiety that concerns me. I love them dearly. My family despises the closeness we have. That concerns me more.

  11. You left off one of the most needed dog who craves being next to you ‘Dachshund’ .Has to be right next to you even when you sleep .Leaves me a couple of inches from edge of bed .

  12. My Rottie, Jasmine was the best Dog ever!! Very loyal, but she sure wasn’t a good Watch Dog. Never barked. Went to the door, wagged her stub of a tail and said, “Come on in!” No lie!!

  13. Yes, but they are unkind to other dogs. When we visited close friends, their 10# Jack easily dominated our 15# Fox Terrier, smooth coat. Friends thot it was funny. Hmm?

  14. Yes I have snuggle up to three of my German shepherds a black and tan and two white German Shepherds. But all three would do nothing more than protect their pact being their home and keep that would be intruder outside from getting in. Would not have anything else but a German Shepherd.

  15. I can’t read this! Everytime I try and go to the next page I fall for the trick of clicking on the ad rather than the next page. I give up.

    1. Ditto.. we had three huskies and they are attention hos! Lol
One passed unfortunately but she was the biggest attention ho and the sweetest.

  16. I really understand just why the Retriever was listed first on this list. I once had the pleasure of being the attention of a Golden. Unfortunately this only lasted about two – three weeks. Then it was rehomed. But the Boykin Spaniel is also quite cuddly. I currently am owned by two of them and they are where ever I am if at all possible. And last but not least was owned by a beautiful “Red Setter” who did not want to ever be out of my sight. I say “Red Setter” because she was an Irish Setter who had been bred as a field dog with all the smarts that entails. Unfortunately the current Irish Setters are bred only to be a show dog and they have no common sense nor hunting ability. I’m sure that many will disagree with this and they are entitled to their own opinions as am I.

  17. Our pittie is so attached to my husband he gets jealous when I sit by my husband. He barks and gets between us. But when he lays by either one of us and doesn’t want petted, he is like a child that doesn’t want hugged or kissed by mom or dad. But the morning kisses are the best. So loving that he circles the table to get his kisses to both of us.😁❤️

  18. I have a Jack/Rat Terrier and he has separation anxiety so bad that m husband and I can barely get a chance to go in the bedroom by ourselves. 😁😉🤣 He is very attached to his ‘Daddy’ that he always has to go with him for rides. That is the joy of his day ❤️❤️❤️

  19. I’ve had a variety of pups over the Years, from a German Shepherd that would jump the fence and follow me down the Road. A terrier mix that would sit at the door until I came Home. The terrier mother of that one, that had to go out first thing in the Am, then again about 3 pm ( I found out she was running around the neighborhood and walk the kids to the school bus, then back home ) But my Favorites are my 4 Staffordshire Pitbulls, very loving, had to follow you everywhere, would protect a kid in a heartbeat, but loved everyone. Right now my son rescued another Pitty, this dog runs as much as he can, livestock snuggle, tells you when it’s dnack time or dinner time ( Different looks and whines) knows when my son is due home from work, he will stand on the Coffee table looking at the door, then when he hears my son’s truck, Starts screaming as loud as he can, runs to the door and looks at the door knob, Screaming the whole time. Once my son walks in the door, it’s all excitement, jumping and laying on both of us, he takes turns, then grabs one of his Toys and its fetch time/ throw the ball, for the next hour ( only with me, I think he’s saying ” Look at me I love to play ” the poor little guy was rescued from Crackheads living in a Motel, with the poor pup locked in a 2X3 cage all day ) so a big yard and a Doggy Door is heaven to him now !

  20. My Shih Tzu sleept on me and the comfort and safe between my knees one I sleept they all go down the bed. I have 3 one on each arm one on my chest belly or between my knees. When I am coughing they ran up to the bed and revived me then they leave me alone. I don’t have a man in my home. My last bf asked me your dogs or me? I said my dogs pal! Get out!!!

I have wanted a Yorke all of my life and i am 82. But they are scarce on the adoption or foster pages. But rest assured, even though I have two precious kitties who are my spoiled babies if I find one that is in need of fostering or adopting I will br right on it. Just hooe it happens in what is left of my lifetime.

  22. You left out a Whippet! A very needy breed.
And the picture you showed of a Doberman Pincher was NOT a Doberman Pincher.

  23. Rottweilers are very touchy-feely. I never owned one but every Rott I ever knew had to maintain contact with someone. One massive Rott that I knew years ago, thought he was a lap dog! Of course, all he could get in my lap was his head but he always did so.

  24. My mother had an 80-90 lb. Labrador Retriever/Blue Tick that thought it was a lap dog and would climb up into my lap when I was sitting in her recliner.

  25. My German shepherd is my Velcro dog. I have to knee out of the way often because she wants to stay so near me. She is especially at my side if I’m headed for the door, because she thinks she has to always go with me. ❤️

  26. Do any of you do called experts even know that Portuguese Water Dogs exist? Do you even know anything about them? They are extremely smart. They are known as Velcro dogs as they attach and never leave your side. They are extremely friendly. They do not shed.
I have owned dogs for longer than most of you have been alive. From poodles of all sizes, pointers, setters, vizslas( my dad bred them in the 1960’s) weinmaraners, boxers, spaniel and a few mixed breeds, but PWDs are unique.

  27. Dobermans are known by their owners as “Velcro dogs”. The two we had when I was a teenager fit that description perfectly. They wanted to sit on your lap, next to you on the sofa, at your feet and on your bed. Ours would have ridden with me in the car inside my shirt if I let them. They do have a lot of energy, and they are very protective.

  28. I’ve had 3 toy poodles and they were all very cuddly, loved attention, and looked sad when I was too busy to play or cuddle. Very lovable!

  29. English Cocker Spaniels are Velcro dogs. They don’t just have any to be around you. They need to be touching you.
