Badger groups from Britain, Northern Ireland, the Republic of Ireland, France and Holland have joined forces in a bid to strengthen legislation at both member state and EU level. The new network -Euro Badger – will promote the importance of the species to biodiversity and habitat protection, and will lobby for alternative policies to culling in efforts to reduce bovine tuberculosis (bTB).
The group’s first major initiative is putting together an EU country-by-country report on badgers. This will include populations and the threats to their survival, and will be launched in the European Parliament later in the year.
