Our world is about to change, and we will be part of a new era! Can you believe it? President Donald Trump has signed the decree on cruelty to animals, and those who are found guilty of cruel and violent actions against animals will be severely punished by imprisonment! Read on to find out more about this law!
U.S. President Donald Trump signed one of our toughest laws on Monday, which states that violence against animals must be punished with imprisonment for up to 7 years.
This law is a federal one, which means it applies throughout the United States. Therefore, the US has now become the country with the toughest legislation against those who torture or kill animals.
As a matter of fact, this bill was introduced last year by two lawmakers: Vern Buchanan and Ted Deutch. They extended a law signed by Barack Obama in 2010 that banned all videos that contained any kind of violent images of animals. Because of people with brutal fetishes, more and more videos of abused animals were made public, but they were banned in 2010 and still are today.
Due to President Trump’s decision, any kind of violent behavior against animals is now severely punished with imprisonment up to 7 years, whether we are talking about non-human mammals, birds, amphibians or reptiles.
“It is important that we combat these heinous and sadistic acts of cruelty, which are totally unacceptable in a civilized society,” said President Donald Trump at the signing ceremony. Also, Mr. Buchanan said, “signing the bill into law is a significant milestone for pet owners and animal lovers across the country.”
Moreover, it is good to know that the federal law banned sponsoring animal fights, so, if you know someone who adopts such practices, you should immediately report it to the police because such behavior is completely illegal! Don’t force an animal that cannot make rational decisions to become a brute or to put its life or that of others in danger just so you could earn some dishonest money.
In case you were wondering, there are felony provisions for animal abuse in all 50 states in America, but this federal bill offers more resources to prosecutors to solve the cases according to the established plan and to detect every abusive behavior on absolutely every territory.
In fact, all the actions people take say something about the American values and social principles. So, if we hadn’t stopped it at this moment, then our society would have had a bad reputation over time and many innocent animals would have died in vain. Also, this amazing decision reflected in the law is one of the most admirable and beneficial federal laws in our society, and we should follow and respect it!
Kitty Block, president, and chief executive of the Humane Society of the United States, says that “The approval of this measure by the Congress and the president marks a new era in the codification of kindness to animals within federal law,” she said. “For decades, a national anti-cruelty law was a dream for animal protectionists. Today, it is a reality.”
Chris Schindler, vice president of field services at the Humane Rescue Alliance, said: “Our officers investigate thousands of animal cruelty cases each year, but have been unable to truly bring justice for the animals in instances when the cruelty occurs across multiple jurisdictions.”
He also noticed that “The PACT Act is a necessary tool for us to provide further protections for animals and our community and will ensure some of the most horrific acts of animal cruelty are prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.”
Another important thing in this process is related to the people who hunt, catch and fish the animals for food. Animals that provide us with our daily food and are raised to be sacrificed for this purpose are exempt from this law.
