It happens from time to time, that we run out of dog food for our beloved puppies, But don’t worry there are some foods in your fridge that your furry companion can eat without an issue.
Not only are some of the foods that you are eating are good to go for your pet as well, but there are also certain foods that will improve their health and immune system too.
Warning: Before giving any of the following to your pet, talk to their vet first!
1. Carrots
Healthy snacks for both us and our dogs. For your canine friends, carrots actually have dental health benefits. They are rich in vitamins and help them with their digestion.
In addition, it’s a booster for their immunity and improves their fur coat and skin.
2. Green beans
In case your dog is a bit overweight this snack will be perfect for them. Beans have a lot of vitamins and minerals and are good for your dog, but must be served without any spice or other dish in order to keep them healthy.
While it’s important to give these to your dog in small doses, they are rich in vitamins A, C, and K.
3. Eggs
Eggs are full of amino acids and vitamins that are good for your dog. In addition, crushing the eggshells and then feeding them to your pet, will strengthen their bones and improve their teeth.
However, even though our food can be healthy for them, you shouldn’t dish it out too often. Also, you shouldn’t feed them raw eggs since it can cause a biotin deficiency.
4. Salmon
Even though it may seem like a fancy snack to give your dog, specialists agree that feeding them salmon at least twice a week could be beneficial for their health condition. NEVER serve it uncooked or seasoned cause it can turn out to be bad for their health.
If salmon sounds too expensive for you, tuna, herring, or fish oil are equally good for them. For dogs allergic to meats, this can be a good substitute.
If you do decide to feed them salmon, it should only be given in small amounts…and be careful with the bones!
5. Yogurt
Dairy products are good in general for your pooch and the yogurt is helpful during the hot season to keep your dog cool. They contain probiotics and they aid in digestion, fight bacteria and infections, and provide several vitamins and minerals.
If your pup has been sick lately or has been fighting diarrhea, then you should consider giving them some yogurt (after talking to your vet first, of course).
6. Oatmeal
It’s easy to prepare at home and it’s filled with carbs for your dog. It shouldn’t contain any added sugars, butter, or artificial sweeteners. It’s rich in fibers and helps with the digestive process of your puppy.
7. Coconut
Coconut can be found these days in many forms and it has a lot of benefits for your canine friend, for it’s an energy source. Coconut oil will improve their skin, fur coat, and health.
8. Rice
It’s a source of carbohydrates and it’s rich in fibers. Brown rice is thought to even help prevent cancer.
9. Sweet potatoes and potatoes
They are safe and healthy for your dog to eat, but must be served with no seasoning and they shouldn’t contain additives.
12. Pineapple
They are an amazing and delicious treat for your companion, This fruit contains a lot of vitamins and minerals as well. Just don’t feed them the inner core of the pineapple or the tough skin.
13. Blueberries, strawberries, and blackberries
These and only these berries should be fed to your dog, others could be highly toxic for your pooch, and they can have a bad reaction to them and eventually get sick.
