I don’t know about you, but my dog has no sense of personal space and I must admit I love it!
Some dogs like to follow their owners everywhere they go. If you go to the bathroom, they go with you. They scooch next to you if you sit on the couch, trying to relax and catch up with your favorite show. Even though you bought the cutest and fluffiest bed for them, they will always choose to sit on your lap, even if you have work to do.
These pups can’t understand what personal space is. Often called velcro dogs, they love to be near their favorite humans all the time. Long story short they need human connection to be content. If you don’t mind this and would love a furry friend to be there for you anytime you need it, check out these pooch breeds that are extra clingy:
1. Border Collie
If you have a border collie at home, you already know they like to follow you everywhere you go. Life with a lovely pup like this is similar to having a shadow: they can’t take their eyes and paws off of their favorite possession—you!
According to experts, these fluffy friends are very intelligent and playful, have an excellent sense of smell and hearing, and love to be surrounded by the people they love. Since they have a lot of energy, one of their biggest joys is pleasing their owners. Trust me, life with a pooch like this is fun and exciting!
2. Vizsla
If you love an intelligent and easy-to-train pup, a Hungarian vizsla is the perfect pup for you. Also known as the ultimate Velcro dog, this breed is attached like peanut butter to jelly to their owner and is the happiest when by your side.
Since they were bred for falconry, they have tons of energy, so they need more playtime and walks to burn off calories. If you’re a sporty person and need a wingman, a vizsla is the perfect companion for swimming, hiking, and hunting. And let’s not forget that they will always be your cuddly buddy.
3. Maltese
We continue with these cute pups who don’t understand what personal space is, and the next one on this list is the fluffy maltese. According to experts, it was one of the earliest breeds to be bred as a lap pup, and this perky pooch just loves being around you.
Since they’re tiny, you can take them everywhere you go, and this will keep them happy. If you’re looking for a small and funny pup that will put a smile on your face, a Maltese is always a good choice.
4. German Shepherd
Probably you wouldn’t think that a German shepherd would be a velcro dog, but hey, surprise: they are! These big, protective, and fluffy pooches are great at guarding their owners, and they only do so because they love you.
Contrary to popular belief, these lovely furballs would love to sit next to you all day long. And if you want to relax on the couch, get ready for them to jump on your lap because they need attention too. After all, how can they protect you if they’re next to you 24/7?
5. Shetland Sheepdog
If you love big pups that can’t take their paws off of you, a Shetland sheepdog will quickly become the love of your life! The sheltie is used to keep livestock in line on the Shetland Islands but is even happier to keep an eye on you. After all, you’re the most important person in their life, so they must protect you, right?
However, keep in mind that this pawsome dog tends to be quite talkative, and they’re known for nipping children and objects as if herding them too! But with proper training, love, and patience, they will be the perfect fluffy member for your family!
6. Doberman Pinscher
Since the Doberman pinscher is a pup that was bred to guard, they take their job very seriously, so they will stay right next to you—for protection purposes, of course. This muscular and powerful pooch is a strong addition to any police or military department, but they also love to snuggle on the couch with their favorite humans.
Getting a pup like this is a fanatic choice because they’re loyal, brave, and intelligent, and you’ll have the time of your life with them. They can be easily trained, and they just love being and playing with you. And who doesn’t want a smart and cute pooch, am I right?
7. Australian Shepherd
There’s no doubt that Aussies are velcro pups, but they’re adorable, so who cares if they follow you everywhere? Well, at least, I don’t. They have lots of energy, love to be active, and are bred to be always alert. They will cling to their family like glue, avoiding other dogs to keep an eye on you. But make sure to keep them busy—they require a ton of exercise!
Speaking of activity levels, if you want to help your canine friend burn off their energy and also make them happy, here’s one of the most entertaining toys. They will be crazy about it, and it will also help you bond.
8. Italian Greyhound
If you have an Italian greyhound at home, you already know how adorable and playful they are. At half the size of their stronger racing cousin, the greyhound, the Italian version is the perfect pup for anyone seeking a smart, affectionate, and alert furry friend.
Even though this pooch might seem shy at first, once it gets comfortable around you, it will do anything in its power to please you. Keep in mind they’re very dependent and more likely to suffer if you go somewhere and leave them behind for too long. They’re at their happiest when they are surrounded by people, especially their favorite humans.
9. Golden Retriever
Golden retrievers aren’t some of the world’s favorites for nothing. They’re cute, playful, friendly, and love their owners like crazy. It doesn’t matter what you do; they will quickly join you in the fun, helping you create the sweetest memories ever.
A pooch like this is also pawsome for service work, and you can keep them happy with regular walks, good food, a couple of treats here and there, and most importantly, your time. There’s nothing more they love than playing and protecting their families!

10. Pug
We’re almost done with this list of pups that will stick to you like glue, but we can’t end it without mentioning the lovely pug. They’re known for their pawsome wrinkled faces and flat noses, but they’re so much more than a pretty face.
Pugs love being surrounded by their beloved humans so much that they’d even neglect a new canine friend just to be by your side. If you want a furry buddy who will put a smile on your face every single day, a pug might be exactly what you need. But I have to warn you that they won’t be easy to take off your lap!
