The animal kingdom is one of the most complex wonders in the world, especially because there are around 7.77 million species of animals and each creature is different. The diversity of the animal kingdom is given by the personality traits of animals, which makes them perfect just the way they are.

For instance, there are some species of monkeys that wash their hands and feet in urine, or did you know that Chinese pigs are the size of bears?

Well, read on for more details if you want to discover some mysterious things about the animal kingdom.

There is a species of monkeys that wash their hands and feet in urine

We have to admit that monkeys are really cute and interesting animals. But what makes them interesting is their behavior, because, for example, capuchin monkeys urinate on their hands and feet when they want to find a partner.

“We think the alpha males might use urine-washing to convey warm, fuzzy feelings to females, that their solicitation is working and that there’s no need to run away,” primatologist Kimran Miller told NBC News. “Or they could be doing it because they’re excited.”

Some Chinese pigs are the size of bears

Pong Cong is a farmer from Nanning, the capital of China’s Guangxi province, who has a 1.102 pound pig. According to animal experts, this pig is as big as an adult male polar bear. Can you believe it? I think this is the biggest pig in the world. According to Bloomberg, massive swine of that size “can sell for more than 10,000 yuan ($1,399), over three times higher than the average monthly disposable income.”

There is a shark species that glow in the dark

Other interesting creatures from the animal kingdom are sharks. Well, not only is their behavior really interesting, but they also have fascinating features, such as glowing in the dark. Well, not all shark species have this super power, but only the swell sharks.

Researchers have discovered that “previously unknown small-molecule metabolites are the cause of the green glow,” according to CNN. This glow “helps sharks identify each other and even fight against infection on a microbial level.”

Cowbirds have a specific language when teaching their young

As you probably know, like the cuckoo, cowbirds lay their eggs in other bird species’ nests and their young have to reconnect with them when they grow up, but they have to use a specific password to find their relatives. “Juvenile cowbirds readily recognize and affiliate with other cowbirds.

That’s because they have a secret handshake or password,” according to Science Daily. In other words, they use “a specific chatter call” to reconnect with their own species.

Baby Tasmanian devils make best friends for life

What can be more beautiful than a life-long friendship? Well, it seems that we find these connections even in the animal kingdom, especially in the case of baby Tasmanian devils. But, not only are these creatures friendly but their bonds last for the rest of their lives and this fact has been scientifically confirmed.

According to Zoos Victoria’s Marissa Parrott, “in the wild, when baby devils leave their mums, we believe they all socialize together.” Moreover, “young devils have their own dens,” “engage in friendly sleep-overs,” and they prefer “to share with their … original friends.”

Some species of whales use bubbles to catch their prey

Did you know that there is a species of whales that catches its pray just by using bubbles? These super creatures are humpback whales and they do not even have to use violence to feed themselves.

“Sometimes, the whales will swim in an upward spiral and blow bubbles underwater, creating a circular ‘net’ of bubbles that makes it harder for fish to escape,” Science News reports.

There are frogs that can freeze without dying

There are some animals that do not have to support the cold because they can freeze without dying, and some species of frogs are the luckiest creatures born with this superpower.

According to Kenneth Storey, a professor at Carleton University in Ottawa, “we have false springs here all the time where it gets really warm and all the snow melts and then suddenly—bam—the wind comes from the north and it’s back down to minus 10, minus 15 [Celsius], and they’re fine.”
