So you decided to extend your family and welcome a four legged member, that’s great. However, you would also like a puppy that can give you lots of love and warmth and be the calm type, we know how agitated dogs can get.

Adopting a furry friend can be a tough decision and afterward a challenging job, however it’s 100% worth it. They will offer you so much love, loyalty and kindness you will never feel the opposite ever again!

In some cases it’s very hard to decide on which breed suits your household and your character.

But, don’t worry we have 14 ideas of dog breeds that will meet all of your requirements.

1. Greyhound

They are indeed the fastest dogs on Earth, but they also happen to be couch potatoes.

A Greyhound will be very gentle and noble with you, he has an independent spirit so you don’t have to worry about them being too clingy. They don’t require too much grooming, however their nails should be trimmed quite often and so their teeth (with a dog special toothpaste).

Some would say they are like cheetahs and so when playing fetch with them, it’s going to take an interesting turn. When you’re on a walk make sure you unleash them in a secure and fenced area.

They require nutrition based on high calories and lots of proteins.

2. Cavalier King Charles Spaniel

They are very popular in the U.S., very soft and an overload of cuteness on top of that. Adorable, sweet, grace are among the words that would best describe a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel.

They are friendly and playful, but also can be lazy. They are prone to some diseases such as: mitral valve heart disease,  patella luxation, hip dysplasia, middle ear infections, which is why you should be on time with their regular check-ups.

You should bathe them at least once or twice a month and brush them every day, twice. They can be trained easily.

3. Pugs

Tiny and peaceful, and they almost never bark. Pugs offer a tone of love and affection and love to receive it back. This bread is suitable for all ages and they enjoy moderate climates, nothing too extreme.

Their eyes are vulnerable and prone to many health problems which is why regular check ups should be respected. Their fur doesn’t need too much grooming, once a week should be good.

Their nails should be trimmed regularly because long nails will be uncomfortable for them. They have a great and stable temperament and is easy to train.

They should be fed with high quality food nothing home prepared unless the vet approves. Remember that they are prone to obesity so make sure you don’t give them extra treats.

4. Newfoundland

Giant fluffs with a big heart. Newfoundland dogs are very big and heavy dogs, a male can weigh up to 150 pounds!! They have a majestic pose and they are very friendly, soft and loving.

Opposed to their great and sometimes intimidating appearance, they really are harmless and sweaty. At least once a week you should take your time and brush them since they have heavy and thick fur.

They are highly intelligent and very curious pets. You should take them to training classes and if you want them to learn how to swim you should consider introducing them to water when they are just a few months old.

5. Bichon Frisee

These are known as irresistible cuddlers, you instantly want to pick them up and snuggle. Charming, smart and intelligent are what these canines are. Brush them at least two, maybe three times every week. Give them a bath at least once a month. Training classes are recommended and they are very easy to train.

They should be fed with high quality food.

6. Maltese

These are even smaller than Bichons but equally sweet. They are less than 7 pounds!!!!! Because of their silky fur they should be groomed every day and have regular baths.

In addition, their nails grow fast and should be cut often. Check their ears and clean them once a week for unwanted things such as wax, debris or hair.

7. Great Dane

Its appearance may say otherwise but in reality this breed is very friendly and affectionate, especially when they believe they have the size of a Maltese.

Sign them up for training classes. They don’t shed much, but weekly brushing is a must. Avoid feeding them fats or bones.

8. Tibetan Spaniel

These ones are very snugly and will want to follow you everywhere. Curious and loving, the Tibetan spaniel is very friendly and playful.

They only require grooming on the bottom of their feet. To keep their fur in good condition, bath them and trim them regularly.

9. Golden Retriever

These furry friends are known to be very loyal and even though they may seem a little overly excited and playful they don’t exhaust you. Brush your furry friend once or twice a week. When the shedding season starts you will need to brush them every day. Also, bathing them helps in the process.

Don’t overfeed your puppy because they are prone to obesity.

10. English Toy Spaniel

Small indoor lovers. Their fur is very silky and long and so it’s vital to brush them every week at least once. They are moderately active, playful and energetic. They are quiet and calm, they don’t bark too much.

They are generally healthy dogs, but regular check ups should not be missed.

11. Australian Shepherd

Devoted and loyal dogs, however they do need a daily exercise routine. Usually ranch dogs are associated with cowboy life. They get easily excited, they have full of energy and are very playful and loyal.

They are in general healthy dogs, but don’t miss any doctor appointments. Weekly brushing is necessary, they require a daily exercise routine since they have so energetic. They tend to be very protective with their families and without the right training they can be destructive.

12. Collie

Amazing family dogs, full of love and devotion. Regular grooming is required because of the state of their fur, checking their ears on a daily basis is also a must.

They are prone to some diseases so don’t forget any check ups. They are very smart and easy to train. They are loyal and obedient.

13. Labrador Retriever

Also known as ,,Labs”, they are very friendly and adore playing with their owners. They are one of the most popular breeds in the U.S. and are known for how much they will love you and how loyal they can be.

Big dogs tend to get sicker faster than small dogs so do make sure you’re following your vet’s suggestions and go regularly on check-ups. Their fur should be brushed regularly and they should be bathed once a month.

Don’t forget to brush their teeth!

14. Old English Sheepdog

They don’t bark excessively and love children. They are almost bear like because of their fluffy and huge fur coat. They are courageous, kind, protective and very smart.

To maintain their fur coat this glorious they need to be trimmed weekly, bathed regularly and have their haircuts whenever it’s too dense. They get bored of monotony so if you try to train them or exercise change things a little a bit.
