These Photos Capture Diverse Textures and Styles of Dogs’ Fur

This photographer’s unique series brings a whole new meaning to the phrase hair of the dog – by focusing less on a hangover and more on the diverse styles of textures of canine fur. Read on to find out more!

Aptly named just that – “Hair of the Dog” – Shaina Fishman’s series brings into focus everything from Dalmatian spots to German pointers’ short hair.

Shot up close, the images encourage viewers to not only hazard a guess at the breed but also admire the vast array of furs.

Shaina, who is based in New York, is a renowned dog photographer, and the images for this series, she said, were captured at various shoots throughout the years.

For that reason, many of the dogs’ breeds are not specified, adding to the intrigue.

The photographer estimates that she has photographed hundreds, maybe thousands, of subjects to select fur photographs from.

Shaina, speaking of her recently-released series, said: “I enjoyed looking back at shoots I had done a while ago and seeing images I had forgotten about.

“Each ‘hair’ featured is from a different dog but I have photographed hundreds of dogs, maybe thousands.

“Going forward I will likely shoot images with this project in mind when I photograph a dog that has fur with an interesting texture or pattern.”
