America’s Shocking Animal Laws You Won’t Believe Are Real

While most of our legal system is built around controlling humans, sometimes animals need to follow the law too. From cracking down on smelly pets to restricting ferocious animals from watching movies, each state has a unique set of mandates about our four-legged friends. Check out this list of America’s oddly specific animal laws!

Nevada

There will be no Arabian nights in Nevada. It is illegal to drive a camel on the highway. Guess you’ll just have to take your car, though that seems like much less fun.

Minnesota

Be aware not to run “afowl” of the law in Minnesota. It is illegal to cross state lines with a duck on your head.

Alaska

It is an offense to push a living moose out of an airplane. A dead one is apparently fine.

Arkansas

After 6:00 pm it is illegal for dogs to bark in Little Rock. Jury is still out on whether or not they will obey this law.

South Carolina

Keep your bathtubs clear of horses in SC, as it is illegal to put them there. The shower is seemingly fine however.

Ohio

Keep your cocktails to yourself in Ohio—and preferably away from the water. It is illegal to get a fish drunk. Gives a whole new meaning to someone “drinking like a fish.”

Connecticut

It is a law in Hartford that you cannot educate dogs. Does obedience school count?

Kentucky

We’re not sure why this one ever came up, but you can’t dye a duckling blue and sell it… unless you’re selling six at once.

Arizona

Did you know that it is illegal for donkeys to sleep in bathtubs? Other animals are seemingly exempt from this prohibition.

Kansas

Fluffy tails rejoice! Kansas has a law that states that rabbits can’t be shot from motorboats.

Florida

Can you believe that in Florida if you tie an elephant to a parking meter, you must pay for it as if it were a vehicle? Make sure you keep your loose change handy when you next take Dumbo out for errands.
