Well, transparent creatures can be everywhere around you and you are not even aware of it! Isn’t that crazy? But in fact, they are really lucky for their appearance because they can totally camouflage and hide from different predators that can kill them instantly or sneak up on prey.

These beautiful animals look like they are made of glass because you can see right through them and this is of course amazing! In addition, these transparent animals can be found throughout the planet in a variety of different ecosystems, from the deep seas to the infinite sky.

Some of them are fully translucent and you can only see their eyes, but you should know that some of these beautiful and interesting transparent creatures were not born like that, but their bodies have evolved through the years, such as the glass octopus and frog. It is amazing to see how Mother Nature creates miracles, especially in the animal kingdom and its wonders are absolutely fascinating.

So, here are some unusual see through animals that will really blow your mind and you won’t believe they actually exist!

Glass frog

The glass frog has a translucent skin that can offer you a clear view of its internal organs, such as its heart and liver. Researchers do not know much about these animals because they are quite difficult to find and collect, especially because of their appearance.

As you can see, they are really good at camouflaging. This species of frogs range in size from twenty to thirty millimeters, but it depends on the species because some of them can be larger than that.

The glass frog is nocturnal, which means that they are active during the night. Their feeding habits take place while they are active during the evening, but they can also feed during the rain showers in the daylight hours.

Jellyfish

As you probably know, jellyfish are 98 percent water and they are almost invisible in the seas and oceans. Some species of jellyfish can glow in the dark because they have some bioluminescent organs that emit light. These lights are really useful because they can attract prey or scare off predators as well.

Moreover, there is a well known fact that jellyfish can actually clone themselves if cut in two pieces. It seems that they can regenerate themselves and create two new separate organisms that can live without any problems. This is why they can be considered immortal. In addition, these transparent creatures do not have brains, but they have some nerve nets that can help them live.

Glass shrimp

The glass shrimp also known as ghost shrimp is an amazing creature that you can see the food in their digestive tract if you look closer. I know this sounds really crazy, but it is actually true!

These species of shrimps are easy to keep in the aquarium and you probably can find one even at your local pet store, but unfortunately, their life span is just one year. Sadly, glass shrimps are often bought as foods for larger fish. Nevertheless, if you want a glass shrimp as a pet you should know that you won’t see it very often, but putting a black aquarium background makes them easier to see. The ghost shrimp food can include some forms of algae, dead plant matter and detritus.

Glass-wing butterfly

This beautiful creature is named after its gloriously transparent wings which also have a brown border that makes its wings more visible. You can literally see through its wings. Its real name is Greta oto and is a migratory butterfly that can be found in Central America. The average length of a glass wing butterfly is 28 to 30 mm.

Moreover, in case you did not know this before, the caterpillar feeds on toxic plants to turn poisonous and as a result of this consumption, it uses it as a defense against predators. Even though their wings appear delicate and look like glass, the Greta oto can carry up to forty times their own body weight.

Glass catfish

Well, the glass catfish also known as the ghost catfish has many muscles that are completely invisible, which makes them perfect for camouflage. Even though their skin is completely transparent, you can actually see their internal organs and even their spinal cord. These beautiful transparent creatures can be found in the Southeast Asian waters and they are also well known for their swimming skills.

If you want to own an exotic pet, you can have a glass catfish as a pet but you should be aware that they require a medium level od care. They are really shy, so you should choose their aquarium mates based on similar personality traits. These species are very peaceful by nature and compatible with silver dollars, tetras, dwarf cichlids and danios.

Water flea

The water flea is completely transparent which helps it hide from other hungry dragonfly and beetle larvae. The water fleas are all females during the wet phase of a vernal pool. Water flea females can reproduce by themselves asexually without the help of a male and their young babies are all females that grow exactly like their mother.

This interesting process of reproduction is called parthenogenesis. In addition, almost half of the female water fleas turn into males like a miracle – because females can’t make ephippia (special water flea cysts) without them. These interesting creatures feed on algae, bacteria and protozoa and they use their legs to do it.

Nevertheless, the major predators of this flea species are the backswimmer, water boatman and the larvae of the phantom midge.
