Border Collie
As you probably know, the Border Collie dog breed was originally bred to control sheep in the border county of Northumberland, an English county between Scotland and England.
Due to these tasks, they proved to be very good listeners and learners – qualities that make them some of the most trainable dog breeds out there.Â

My parents had a Australian Shepard, he was very easy to train, he just had too much energy for them, but he was a very intelligent sweet dog.
MY male dalmation responded to voice and hand commands
Black Lab. Loyal, smart, sweet, easy train, empathetic, just ‘knows’ what humans need and when (especially with kids)
My female Dalmatian was one of the smartest. Now I got a Bugg ,a Boston Terrier and a English Mastiff. I think it’s how you approach training, all three are extremely well trained, they do things that amaze me ,I use hand signals for all my dogs especially the Mastiff
Can you train a dog after 4 yrs that has never been disaplined.
Sandy, things will go better for you both, if you think of “show and tell”, rather than “discipline.” And if you reward the desired doggy response, you’re halfway there.
Yes, just be sure to find a good trainer based on the breed and if your dog has any behavioral issues that need to be addressed. Good luck, you will be amazed.
