Chinese Shar Pei

According to animal experts, the Chinese Shar Pei will only bark to alert the presence of a real danger, but in essence, they are quiet and gentle dogs. The breed was developed to guard, hunt and later on to fight, but nowadays, they can make wonderful family companions.

The Chinese Shar Pei is calm enough that they can live in an apartment. Just like any other dog breed out there, they need proper training from an early age, otherwise, they tend to develop problematic behavior. Like the Chow, this dog breed has a dark tongue, which is considered normal, so you don’t have to worry about that.

Moreover, they do not need frequent bathing, but when you do this, you have to dry them thoroughly. Although they are purebred dogs, you can find them even in animal shelters, so try to adopt instead of buying, if you want to save an innocent life.

  1. The sharpei is not a good family breed dog or dog for most people. It was bred to fight and retains that aggression. Training cannot override centuries of breeding for fighting and it’s a liability to attack people or other animals without warning. My neighbor’s sheep were disemboweled by a sharpie that jumped their fence and attached them. Chow is another with too much selection for aggression in the blood. These are both on the uninsurable list for homeowner’s insurance for a reason.
