3. German Shepherd
Are you looking for a smart and hardworking pup? A German Shepherd might be exactly what you need. This breed loves to spend time outside, and they need plenty of physical and mental stimulation so that they can be in great shape.
They’re very brave and have a courageous and poised demeanor, which makes them the best dogs for assisting the police and the military, as well as other service organizations. If you want a smart pup that will impress you every day with its brains, a German Shepherd might be the best companion for you!
2. French Bulldog
…Did you know that the French Bulldog is actually from England?
Number 2 on our list is the French Bulldog! With their beautiful, little, and cute faces, no wonder why the majority of Americans love to have them at home and play with them all day long!
These pups are just great for people who live in apartments. There might be times when all they want to do is be couch potatoes and be petted by their owners, but it doesn’t mean that they don’t enjoy running outside and playing with their favorite humans!
Even though they’re suitable for people who live in apartments, they crave human connection and attention, and they hate it when they’re left alone for too many hours at a time. Keep in mind that they thrive on human contact and attention, so this isn’t a breed to be kept alone for hours at a time.
1. Labrador Retriever
And the winner of our list is the Labrador Retriever! These pups are smart, lovable, and completely crazy about their families! They really enjoy pleasing their favorite humans and can easily become friends with children and other pets.
It seems like the majority of people in our beautiful country love these intelligent pups, which are also really good at being guide pooches or search-and-rescue dogs. We believe these people are right! What do you think? Tell us in the comments down below!
…If you want to know something funny about this dog breed, there you have it: the song “Black Dog” from Led Zeppelin was actually inspired by a Labrador Retriever that kept wandering around the band’s recording studio. Who said that dogs can’t be rock stars, right?

You forgot the collie (like Lassie – not Border collie).
Wonderful, very smart companion.
I love poodles. We’ve had 2 minis and 2 standards. They are all mellow, curious, funny, athletic, observant and affectionate. As long as they get attention, walks, and being in different situations for stimulation they are happy. 😃
My favorite is the WESTIES. I just lost both of mine and it is really really hard on me. January, 2024 – Lost my husband of 60+ years; February, 2024 – had to put down my special loved dog; May I had to put down our last dog; then August 15 I lost my brother. Those dogs were my crutch and I mourn them almost as much as my husband and brother. THIS YEAR HAS BEEN THE M-O-S-T TERRIBLE YEAR.
I have had 4 Pekingese and they are the most wonderful dogs. They are funny, loyal, smart and loving (lap dogs). Mine follows me everywhere. They have not been dogs to chew or destroy anything. I leave my shoes everywhere and they are never bothered.
love this breed. My last one had health problems but the one I have now is 13 1/2 and is the picture of health. She is active, curious, and a real pleasure to have around.
Wow, how could you not include the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel on this list! Sorry but you’re wrong; mistaken and absolutely loco. We’ll forgive that since pooches are your priority.
I have She’ pyrenees and standard schnauzer., she’s very loyal, smart, but my niece decided to get her on her lap. Now, Molly thinks that she can get on the sofa by herself. And she weighs almost seventy pounds
My husband and I always had Labrador Retrievers and they were “gentle giants” as we used to refer to them. We had many grandchildren and they would play and walk with them. A Labrador rarely pulls when you walk them on lead. We had 2 at one time and I would walk them together on a double lead with absolutely no issues. Since I barely weigh 100 pounds myself that is saying something to brag about regarding Labrador Retrievers.
